Peach Fuzz – Cavern Club – 8pm BBC Merseyside’s Dave Monks holds the final BBC Introducing… Liverpool night of the year with a triplet of interesting Merseyside-based guitar groups: the Peach Fuzz, who deal in frazzled post-punk; country-tinged tongue-in-cheek of Kangaroos; and Stratocaster-slinging singer/songwriter Pixey. Friday 20th Flying Luttenbachers – Kazimier Stockroom – 8pm Weasel Walter’s pulverising, tamed-chaos, drum-led jazz/metal/noise project now contains saxophonist Matt Nelson, bassist Tim Dahl, and guitarist Alex Ward, providing deranged, non-linear intensity with the fast and detailed sound of latest offering Shattered Dimension (their first recording in 12 years) making for the nexus of this tour. UK hard techno is beyond reprieve when it comes to Andy Stott; veritable national treasure, composer and producer Micachu provides a DJ set; the grim M62-centred post-club extrapolations of Demdike Stare arguably provide the focus of the night – though at what cost to the body clock. Looking ahead: NYE / 31st December The Final New Year’s Eve – Constellations – 9pm Crazy P Sound System heads up the last party at the beloved Greenland Street venue, one that has seen myriad developments come and go in the surrounding area of the Baltic Triangle in Liverpool, so shed a tear as the wonderful Constellations opens and shuts shop for good – but not without bright plans for round the corner. Melodic Distraction family provide the backbone of supporting DJ duties.
