IN SITU – An Ambient Adventure in Several Movements
For Light Night 2016 in Liverpool “The Popular Music Show”, BBC Radio Merseyside’s long-running alternative music programme is creating an “ambient adventure”. In November 2015 the programme broadcast “Music For Empty Spaces” in which local musicians created pieces of music for various Merseyside locations of their choice. These were made downloadable for people to take to the locations.
This time, with “In Situ”, the emphasis is on music which inhabits the thoroughfares and locations in Central Liverpool, with the idea of enhancing people’s perceptions of the city through appropriate soundtracks. A wealth of local musicians contributed the sounds that make up this tour- Anni Hogan, Paul Tarpey, Rongo Rongo, germanager, Jo Bywater, Isocore, AGP, and more. The Light Night sound walk took place at 9pm on Friday 13th May 2016. 30 of us assembled on the steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral to embark on the hour-ish long journey. which was broadcast in its entirety on the PMS show at midnight on Sunday 15th May.
