Once and Future Band + Ali Horn + Some Bodies – 81 Renshaw – 7:30pm
Formed out of the primordial creative ooze of the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland’s Once & Future Band released their self-titled LP on John Dwyer’s Castle Face records in 2017, garnering rave reviews from MOJO, Uncut, Modern Drummer and Shindig among other publications and landing a spot on The Wire and The Guardian’s Best of 2017 list. BBC RadioGideon Coe, Jon Hillcock and Marc Riley (whose show they have performed live on multiple times). They’ve made their way across the US and Canada as main support for Tool and Chris Robinson’s “As The Crow Flies” shar the stage with such diverse acts as Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, White Denim, Mild High Club, King Tuff, Dungen, !!!, Battles, Foxygen, Red Fang and Metronomy. They were selected by Flying Lotus and Wire to play their curated festivals. Support comes from Liverpools own Ali Horn who will be playing with his full band. An eclectic line-up graces the September edition of The Bido Lito! Social with rising stars AIMÉE STEVEN, TEE and GALILEO GIRL on the line-up. Taking place at treasured venue 81 Renshaw, the Bido Lito! Social is our chance to welcome the latest issue of the magazine into the bosom of Liverpool’s music community. Everyone is welcome whether you’re a reader of the magazine, a contributor, or just want to experience the best in new local music. Aimee Steven recently impressed at LIMF and is featured in this month’s Spotlight section. Having already released two tracks this year, her solo performance will be an open invitation to her world where rituals and the macabre meet; treading the line between pop music and industrial noise. Alexander Tucker + Silvia Battista – Kazimier Stockroom – 7:30pm
Capable of creating immense sounds on such a grand scale that it is astounding to realize that it is (mostly) all the work of just one man. There is a distinct otherworldliness to his art. Psychedelic without ever resorting to tropes of the genre, it’s the subtle thread connecting every aspect of his output, from the vibrant and hypnotic avant-pop of Grumbling Fur, his duo with Daniel O’Sullivan, to extended drone collaborations with Charlemagne Palestine and Stephen O’Malley, to his beautiful yet strangely unnerving paintings and comics. The unknown explored in his visual art was adventurously traveled on “Don’t Look Away” (Thrill Jockey, 2018) where the music, lyrics, and artwork all worked in tandem to conjure a universe that felt as fantastical and mysterious as familiar and warm. “Guild of the Asbestos Weaver”, his new album, due August 23rd on Thrill Jockey captures Tucker’s boundless vision as a composer. Motionhouse: Wild – Hinterlands – 7:30pm
Following on from the huge success of BLOCK at River Festival 2019, Motionhouse present their daring new outdoor production WILD for LEAP Festival. The performance explores our disconnect with the natural environment and asks if, in our increasingly urban lives, the wild is still shaping our behaviour? Where do we belong? Do we choose to survive as a lone wolf or engage with the pack and the tribe? Integrating dynamic choreography, acrobatic movement and hand-to-hand partnering, WILD will be staged atop an urban forest of industrial scaffolding inside the Baltic’s new Hinterlands space, in a breathtaking show for audiences of all ages. Motionhouse are a global touring production company, known for their stunning dance-circus and large-scale performances. The company’s Artistic Director Kevin Finnan was Choreographer and Movement Director of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Robyn Hitchcock – Capstone Theatre – 7:30pm
Robyn Hitchcock is one of England's most enduring contemporary singer/songwriters and live performers. A surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist and musician's musician, Hitchcock is among alternative rock's father figures and is the closest thing the genre has to a Bob Dylan (not coincidentally his biggest musical inspiration).
Since founding the art-rock band The Soft Boys in 1976, Robyn has recorded more than 20 albums as well as starred in Storefront Hitchcock an in-concert film recorded in New York and directed by Jonathan Demme.
Blending folk and psychedelia with a wry British nihilism, Robyn describes his songs as ‘paintings you can listen to’. His most recent album is self-titled and marks his 21st release as a solo artist. Released on April 21 2017, the album was produced by Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs) and Hitchcock describes it as an "ecstatic work of negativity with nary a dreary groove."

Vic Godard & The Subway Sect + The Ronco Pop-O-Matics – 81 Renshaw – 7:30pm
Formed to play at the 100 Club "punk festival" in 1976, Vic Godard's Subway Sect shot beyond punk – their music a testament to the liberating ethos of the movement. Respected, and deservedly so, Godard (actually Napper) has been a career postman more than he has been a career musician, a fact you might attribute to Subway Sect's early days – when all but Vic were sacked from the band by their manager – but which he has turned to his creative advantage. As a great new comp, 30 Odd Years, amply demonstrates, his music has covered tuneful garage post-punk to existential crooning and witty jazz, his mode an inspirational reconciling of opposites. A dandyish character, Godard has more in common with Edwyn Collins (he sang back-up on A Girl Like You) than Joe Strummer, and he remains ahead of a time that would do well to catch him up. http://www.81renshaw.co.uk/venue

Blue Orchids, as a post punk psychedelic adjunct to Fall-world are well established in the music enthusiast’s consciousness, and yes, Martin Bramah was a founding father of The Fall, and as expressed recently might have reasonable grounds to even call himself The Fall, well, why not…but then he’s not daft. Perhaps people could do with reconnecting with Martin’s oeuvre a little more deeply than obsessing over the ex-Fall schtick, specially what with the recent albums being a succession of magick pop psych masterpieces choc stock (oh yes) with fabulous gems full of rich, resonant sounds and stinging, esoteric lyrics. http://www.81renshaw.co.uk/venue

Vetiver is the long-running stage and recording name of San Francisco's Andy Cabic. 'Up On High' is his seventh studio album and the first since 2015.
